Xmas at Himatangi Beach

Just got back from a few days at Himatangi beach staying with my two mums, Alison and Pam. I haven't had so much fresh seafood in a long time, and I even got breakfast in bed one morning. And I read two books - beach living is great!

Bad Horse

Well, I never got a pic of Bad Horse, but I did get a shot of the helicoptor which delivered them in true Mash style. Mostly though, I was captivated by the nurse outfits and the lovely Courtenay Place working that red carpet! The Bad Horse video awards are definitely a highlight of alternative Whanganui events.

Rose garden

We were invited to a cocktail party at Enaj Lee and Rick Baum's place. They had put on an amazing spread, and had apparently been busy finishing their unpacking. The house was beautiful with art everywhere and the garden was full of rambling roses which I took some pictures of on my trusty phone camera.

Common Sense Nihilist

The other show we went to recently was David Cauchi's 'Common Sense Nihilist' at Thermostat Gallery in Palmerston North. Seen here are some of Dave's works, Dave (with pipe of course) and Rose, close-up of aforementioned pipe, and Simon pouring the beer.

Glass demo

When Simon and Katie Sweetman from Wellington came up to visit, we checked out Chronicle Glass in Whanganui where co-owner Lyndsay gave us a demo of shaping hot glass.

trip to new plymouth

Last weekend, Matt and I headed off to the Govett Brewster in New Plymouth for the opening of the Break Construct show.
Artists in the show are Ben Cauchi, Cortina, Simon Denny, Simon Lawrence, Peter Madden, Sam Morrison, Seung Yul Oh, Marnie Slater and Yvonne Todd.
Cortina performed in their usual inimitable style.
While the artists and dealers dined in the gallery cafe, Matt and I got fish n'chips and cruised down to the waterfront just as the light was fading. You can just make out the Len Lye 'Wind Wand' sculpture in the sky in the distance glowing red - stunning!
