Encountered some interesting place names between Albuquerque and Las Cruces - like Elephant Butte.... The town of Truth or Consequences sounded great, but there wasn't a lot going on there. We only had a very short time in Las Cruces and the main street was blocked off due to roadworks, so these bottom three photos don't exactly do it justice...

Just out of Flagstaff we turned off to see the huge crater where a meteor impacted 50,000 years ago. The Basket Meteorite shown here is a surviving fragment which was found by a rancher in the 1940s, then stolen, and eventually turned up in an estate sale in 2006.

Our first road trip from Las Vegas to Los Angeles with a midway stop in the thriving metropolis of Barstow. They do have some good examples of mural art and quite a few second-hand stores.

more Halloween Parade - on wheels

Some of the parade participants cruised up 4th St in style. Top left is local band 'The Boones'. There were 'altered' vehicles, some creatures on cycles ... and Santa on wheels{?!} As it happens, I also have a photo of him taken at the Hispanic Parade recently.

Halloween Parade

The top three photographs were taken where I waited opposite the beautifully lit Meet building on 4th St. Apparently this was the first ever Halloween Parade in Las Vegas and I really enjoyed seeing such a variety of creative self-expression. These pictures only give a tiny taste, but my next post will be of parade participants on wheels.

Night of the Living Dead

As a lead up to Halloween, we attended the screening of 'Day of the Dead' at Camp 107. It was quite freaky watching flesh-eating zombies while being surrounded by zombies in the audience. Luckily we survived the experience and came home with some eyeball goodies from the raffle.

Last night was the official opening of Blackbird Studios (previously Place Gallery) in Commerce St, Las Vegas. The Zombie Apocalypse event features Art of the Living Dead, including my Snake Tongue collage, Matt's Broken-hearted Zombie Dream and some awesome 3d zombies by Nightmare Nevada.
There was also some great zombie food, a lot of actual zombies and the Las Vegas Chapter of the Zombie Squad who gave a demo on how to destroy a zombie.
