Ernesto Neto

I was looking through Parkett magazine in the Ucol library the other day, and came across this installation work by Ernesto Neto. I like how he completely transforms spaces...

Live Performance

Just home from an intense set of live performance at The Eye of Night. First there was Runzelstirn & Gurgelstock with a mouthgag, a microphone and a mixing desk, then Dave Phillips (also from Switzerland) with balloons and a very disturbing video protesting animal cruelty, and last but 4 sure not least, Justice Yeldham from Oz making music from a piece of glass which involved quite a bit of blood-letting. I won't say anymore in case you get to see 4 yourself...but shown here is a shard of bloodied glass left over. We now have it at home, autographed even.

Evil Eye show

We stopped in at Aratoi in Masterton. The courtyard area there isn't really working for me, but you can see the exterior of what they've called 'The Wesley Wing' which in its previous life and location was where I used to go to church as a kid. So it was a strange experience to be listening to Annee Olofsson talking about multiple murders in her 'Evil Eye' video being shown in that space. Great work though.

Collecting Photographers

The NZ Centre for Photography and the Portrait Gallery have been given two years' free lease of Shed 11 on the Wellington waterfront, to be extended if their visitor numbers warrant it. The Portrait Gallery have put on a stunning first show featuring artist's self-portraits and also portraits of other artists. The 'Collecting Photographers' show, curated by Janet Bayly features Wellington-connected photographers who also collect photography, so a lot of different photographers are represented. The collectors are: Wayne Barrar, Andrew Ross, Ben Cauchi, me, Mary MacPherson, Peter Black, Bruce Connew, Alan Knowles, Alannah Gunter, Janet Bayly and Anne Noble. I took a few pix at the opening.

07.07.07

Rab and Ann Marie put on a brilliant 'afternoon tea' to celebrate the auspicious 07.07.07. There was live music from Faliktronic(?), some very smartly dressed people, and fabulous pink love cakes.
