Tartz

The delicious apricot tart I had at the new Tartz Cafe, Himatangi Beach. It has been opened by a group of grandmothers who are doing an awesome job. I'd never make a good food photographer - I'd eat it all first!

Portrait Award

The Adam Portraiture Award went to Irene Ferguson for The Blue Girl (Johanna Sanders in her Back Yard). Also seen here are works from a Whanganui contingent of artists: Matthew Couper, Self Portrait with Scottsboro Boys (Its all about Whanau), Kim Hurst, Momentum (Oliver Pervan) and Helen Frost, Self Portrait as YBA (Sarah Lucas). Sorry about the blurriness, it was so crowded, I had to take photos on the run.

On the road to Wellington on a very hot day...

Last night Matt gave his talk at the Sarjeant Gallery about his show The Museum of Inherent Vice. He is seen here standing on the paintings which people walk over as they enter the show.

new UCOL building

I bike past the new UCOL campus every day on the way to my studio. There are now lights on inside which is a good sign as I've heard enrolment day is Friday.

Damned Evangelist!

Finally made it back to an Eye of Night gig. Such a brilliant venue and always interesting performances. Seen here are Damned Evangelist! who I really enjoyed. Tape Man would have been awesome, but we had to bail. And here's the beautiful Jenna with her new tattoo.

2 Degrees

Matt and I just got back from Gisborne where we have work in a group show '2 Degrees' at the Pencil Gallery. Seen here is Matt's painting A faux construction epitomising some western ideals of whanau through tromp l'oeil frivolity, phew! Also some children enjoying Rob McLeod's work, and my Desert Flower pieces. The other artists in the show are John Walsh, Peter Ireland, Brian Campbell, Sanjay Theodore and Wilhelmus C Ruifrok.

Family reunion

In the weekend we had a family reunion on my Mum's side of the family. Lots of people brought memorabilia along to share, such as my Grandma Winnie's pink wedding dress and flower veil which she wore in the 1930s and a beautiful book dated 1883 with drawings and stickers. My nephew Remi is seen here working hard in the kitchen, and my neice Sidonie is showing me all the beautiful dresses she brought back from her time on the Gold Coast.
