a girl about town...

Pippa Sanderson's images at Photospace Gallery were a little over Vera's head. She was more interested in the telephone jack. However, I would thoroughly recommend the show - check it out if you haven't already - it's on until 12 September.

some more public art

Wellington is doing pretty well with public art. Top left is 'Tripod' by Weta Workshop. Top right is the scene of the brick throwing by Daniel Malone at the Adam Art Gallery. Bottom left is the James K Baxter quote on the Wellington Writers Walk. Bottom right is 'The Tail of the Whale' by Colin Webster-Watson.

Victor Berezovsky

Tuesday night was the opening of Victor Berezovsky's show 'Splinter' at Mary Newton gallery in Wellington. This new series gives viewers the chance to explore recent developments in Victor's work. Many will already be familiar with his painting on the facade of the Freyberg pool, which incorporates existing attributes of the original design.

I admit it, I have a weakness for animal prints...

I was flicking through the March 2009 issue of Wallpaper* magazine, while enjoying a coffee yesterday. These are details of two dresses which were pretty amazing - a tiger print dress by Salvatore Ferragamo and a leopard-print dress by Lanvin. A little out of my price range, but wow! Photography by Alix Malka.

group show opening soon...

Thermostat Art Gallery is hosting a 'taster' version of the full exhibition which I've been putting together with a great Whanganui crew. It will be coming to Auckland in October and then Whanganui dates to be confirmed. The show is named after a Flight of the Conchords number. There may be an economic downturn but we kiwis still know how to have a good time. To see more, come along to the opening at Thermostat Art Gallery, Sat 22 August 5.30-7.00pm. Or watch this space!

farewell to Andrew and Deborah

We went to the farewell at Tylee Cottage for artists-in-residence Andrew Ross and Deborah Barton. They've contributed their own unique charm to the cottage and the town. They will be missed.

Rose Requiem

I didn't photograph my work at the Vent8 exhibition opening, but here is the full work. The medium is oil on wood and the dimensions are approx 700 x 700mm. In the centre is a fabric flower.

Vent8 exhibition opening

There was a nice, buzzy opening for Vent8: Spirits, Ghosts and Gremlins at Thermostat Art Gallery. Top left above the crowd is Erena Baker's work 'Hei Mahara'. Top right is Rose Miller's 'Now Hear the Word of the Lord' above Sandra Schmidt's collage 'Frozen Madonna'. Below left is Arlo Edward's 'Saturn and Melancholy' and below right are Lauren Lysaght's 'Spirit Levels' behind Paul Rayner's 'Patrick Swayze Spirit Bottles'.
