One Dark night in Palmerston North

My friend Rose Miller bravely revisited childhood fears with her work in the 'Dark' show now on at Thermostat gallery. Upstairs I found the skeleton man in a new position as chairman of the bored. However, guaranteed to alleviate boredom, two walls of drawings by James Robinson.

More Wellington

Apparently, absence makes the heart grow fonder and I think it's true. When I go back to Wellington now, I remember how I used to feel when I was first getting to know the city. It's great to see the old buildings around the waterfront being retained, although often now it is just the facade. And I was treated to clear blue skies on my last day there, and even more amazingly, no wind! I walked into the city through Central Park on Brooklyn Hill - a beautiful forest walk in the middle of the city.

Siren and Janet

Siren Deluxe and Janet Bayly
There are two shows worth seeing at Thermostat Gallery in Palmerston North at the moment by photographers Janet Bayly and Siren Deluxe. There are themes of gender, the human figure and photography in an historical context. I've just got back from the opening where I photographed both artists.

Himatangi Caravan Park

Blue Bottle Bach
There's nothing like a winter break in a caravan park at the beach. I stayed in Sue and Mel's cute little Blue Bottle Bach and these other two caravans are neighbours. Although, I have to say, I felt like I was in a horror movie last night when I had to head off to the toilet block in a storm, with awnings flapping, and I seemed to be the only person staying there.... But the sun was out today and I got in a brisk walk on the beach.
