Rayner Brothers Gallery

The official gallery opening was last night. Paul and Mark have transformed the space at 52 Guyton St, Wanganui. There were some fabulous people there and the venue and the work look great. The gallery will be open Wed-Fri 11-5 and Saturdays 10-1. Here are some pix.

Peter Ireland's opening

We went down to Wellington for the opening of Peter Ireland's show 'The Martyrdom of Landscape' at Janne Land Gallery, 13 Jessie St. I don't have pics, but to see the works, check out the website http://peterireland.bravehost.com

Mogwai the Star

Mogwai is one cool cat and such a poser. As well as doing his upside down performances, he catches drips from taps, and generally likes to be the centre of attention at all times.

New Dowse

We checked out the New Dowse recently. Regan Gentry's gorse exhibition was on - seen here is his gorse tree. And the Kong exhibition was on, but no pix allowed, and anyway, anyone that into the making of Kong can buy the DVD.

12 minutes past 12

I took part in the nationwide three-minute silence in memory of three-year old Nia Glassie today, and to take a stand against child abuse. It was a pretty low-key event on Victoria Ave, Whanganui, but it was still a very moving experience and it felt good to be part of it. It's all about the community sharing responsibility for our little ones, and that is so important I reckon.

Carey Smith & Co. Whanganui Arts Review Open Award

One out of left field, but very cool to find out I won the Open Award last night. The judges were Mary-Jane Duffy and Aaron Lister. I didn't take any photos at the opening because I was working, but Joanna Langford won Highly Commended for her installation 'The Cloud Watcher', Andrea du Chatenier won an award for her 'Dancing Death' wool rug, Lydia Davis-Pou won the student award for her oil painting 'I believe in Adam and Eve' and Leigh Mitchell-Anyon, Rachael Garland, Brandon Sayring, Alexander Harper, Tom Turner and Penni Wyse were also award winners.
Posted here are two images of my 'Contemporary Gladiator' work, me celebrating at Indigo afterwards, and the talented Lydia chilling out at home.
