Heather Hermann Artist Talk

Currently showing at Sin City Gallery is 'Cerebral Paralysis' by Las Vegas artist Heather Hermann (aka Calliopie). Hermann gave a talk about this new series of works which is based around the central figures of the philosopher and the aesthete.
Citing Russian-born artist Erté and Japanese illustrator Yoshitaka Amano as influences, Hermann has developed a style which echoes Art Deco sensibilities. These new works rely on a predominantly monochromatic color palette, with metallic accents.
Although referencing the past, Hermann also incorporates modern technology with depictions of video monitors and suggestions of web cam sex. She describes sexuality as having the power to deliver spiritual enlightenment through journeys of the mind and spirit.
Perhaps these works are the key to unlocking the 'Cerebral Paralysis' of the show's title? For Hermann, these works are her most personal and revealing to date. She summed up the show very simply "This is what I do. This is who I am".
